Revival of the Limerick–Foynes railway line is gathering pace – a drone video

A railway line in Ireland has been brought back to life using high-quality concrete sleepers manufactured in Germany.

A recent drone video provides an impressive view of the progress being made on the revival of the approximately 42-kilometre railway line between Limerick and the Port of Foynes in Ireland. The line, which had been out of service for more than two decades, is currently undergoing extensive modernisation and is set to play a key role in the country's freight transport network once again.

Reconnecting the Port of Foynes to Ireland's national rail network will create an efficient and sustainable transport alternative, making freight transport in particular more efficient and environmentally friendly. The project forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country's rail infrastructure and support the transition to more sustainable mobility.

Leonhard Moll Betonwerke made a significant contribution to the project by manufacturing a total of 65,000 pre-stressed concrete sleepers of the IR08 type for the route. Production took place at the company's plant in Neuss, Germany, from where the sleepers were transported to Ireland by road and sea via a carefully coordinated logistics chain. The project was delivered in close collaboration with logistics partner Haeger & Schmidt Logistics.

The aerial footage highlights not only the scale of the project but also the importance of the line for the future development of rail freight transport in the region. Once the line becomes operational, the Port of Foynes will once again be directly connected to Ireland's national rail network – an important step towards a more efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure.

The revival of the Limerick–Foynes railway line is a prime example of the modernisation of Europe's rail networks, demonstrating how international collaboration and innovative solutions can successfully deliver complex infrastructure projects.
