The sun is on the rise: Moll Rail is driving forward production using renewable energy

With new photovoltaic projects and energy storage solutions, the company is systematically expanding its international solar strategy.

As the days grow longer and the sun becomes stronger, industry is increasingly harnessing the potential of renewable energy. Leonhard Moll Betonwerke is making targeted use of solar power to make the production of its pre-stressed concrete sleepers more sustainable.

Photovoltaic systems are already in operation at several European sites. In total, six solar installations contribute to the energy supply of the company’s production facilities, including sites in Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Another installation is about to be commissioned at the German site in Biebesheim, further expanding the existing infrastructure.

With its latest project in Güsen, Saxony-Anhalt, the company is taking another significant step forward by constructing its first ground-mounted solar installation. Covering an area of around 1,000 square metres, the system will have a peak output of approximately 210 kW. It will be complemented by a modern battery storage system capable of storing up to 230 kWh of solar energy, enabling the electricity generated to be used efficiently even during periods of lower solar radiation.

“With this project, we are breaking new ground. There will be challenges and a great deal to learn. But our objective is clear: to make the production of pre-stressed concrete sleepers ever more sustainable,” says Andrea Benincasa, CEO of the Leonhard Moll AG Group.

These investments in renewable energy form part of a long-term strategy to make the company’s production processes more resource-efficient and future-ready. At the same time, they make a tangible contribution to reducing emissions and supporting the transformation of the mobility and infrastructure sectors.

Projects such as the one in Güsen demonstrate how industrial production and sustainable energy generation are becoming increasingly integrated – an important step towards a more climate-friendly transport infrastructure across Europe.
